Halloween is coming, know your vultures!

Here is a photo of a Black Vulture (coragyps atratus) perched in a dead tree in wetland area just above our house. No doubt, it was searching for its next meal. Unlike the red headed Turkey Vulture (cathartes aura), which uses its sense of smell to locate food, the Black Vulture depends on its keen eyesight.

Ah, a photo after my own heart- we have had a ton of them flocking around the estuary behind our neighborhood. Nothing spookier than dark rain clouds and about 45890567 black vultures perched up in a dead tree. I love it.
