Backyard Wildlife

Living by a lake is a wonderful thing. You can truly get a vivid sense of nature as the seasons change. Our yard is a certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat. Sounds good doesen't it? However, all anyone needs to have a wildlife habitat of their own, it to provide the basics; food water and shelter for animals to raise their young.
We have also participated in the SC Dept. of Natural Resources Wood Duck program for about three years now. We have had a hen lay eggs every year since, but this year was the first the most survived. We checked the boxes yesterday and, found several hatched eggs and a couple that never did. Nonetheless, a success!!!
Also, Saturday while mowing the yard, I almost ran over a black snake. We "re-located" the snake, and low and behold, Sunday afternoon, he showed up again.

You never know what your gonna see when you step out in this yard. And that is a good thing!

Life is good!

Given my tendency to walk up on black snakes, I am surprised that we didn't come across the snake when we were there It would have been worth the 5 years off my life just to see the kids (especially Zachary's) reaction.
