Trail Head
In mid February, we decided to knock a must do hike off our list, Shortoff Mountain in the Pisgah National Forest. We arrived at the trail head after a VERY long drive down Wolfpit Rd. to find the trail head parking area almost full.
The trail is evident, even though not well marked. The elevation gain begins quickly, and you are soon rewarded with great views of Lake James.
Lake James
The views all the way up the trail are amazing. The rock outcrops and ledges make for outstanding photo opportunities.
A great view.
One of many outcrops.
Near the summit, is another very unique feature. There is a pond on top of the mountain.
Soon after reaching the summit, the rain and thunder began, so our trip back down, was much quicker than the trip up. This hike is one of the most beautiful ones we have done.
