Sam's Folly: A Kayak Cache

Photobucket

March 2, 2008
Highlands NC
Lisa, myself and a group of our friends from the USCGA drove up to Highlands Sunday to log this unique geocache. This site is located on Lake Sequoyah in Highlands NC. The cache is located very near the above home that is known as Sam's Folly. The building is an old mill site that has been converted into a residence. It is built beside a waterfall and water actually runs through the foundation of the home. It is really something to behold. The cache is located across from the home and is probably only accessible by kayak or canoe. We had a great time paddling with friends. After logging the cache, we returned to our vehicles and drove into Franklin NC for some good BBQ. On the way back along with caching along the route, we stopped at the Jackson Hole Gem mine, and tried out hand at mining. That was a blast.
It was a beautiful day in the western NC mountains, and we enjoyed every minute of this adventure.
