A day on the Virginia Creeper Trail.

During a late June camping trip in the Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area, we spent a day biking a 17 mile section of the Virgina Creeper Trail.  The Virginia Creeper Trail is a old railroad track converted into a multi-use trail.  Biker, Hikers, Birders, Photographers, and Geocachers, are just a few of the many groups that enjoy the trail.
The trail is just over 34 miles long, and runs from Abington VA. , to Whitetop Station at the NC/VA border. There are 47 trestle crossings along the trail.
On June 29th, we hired a local shuttle service in Damascus, to take us and our bikes, up to Whitetop Station to begin the journey.  This section of the trail is very popular, as it is mostly downhill allowing for a relatively easy trip.  We allowed ourselves plenty of time for picture taking and geocaching.  While on the trail, we found our 1000th geocache.  It was a wonderful adventure, and we hope to return in a fall season to enjoy the colors of the season.
