A long awaited hike.

Wow, its been quite awhile since I have added any thing to my blog. It is my hope to be more attentive to this blog in 2012.

During our Christmas holiday, I was able to take one hike off of my "wish list". The hike is Looking Glass Rock Trail, located inside the Pisgah National Forest. The Looking Glass Rock Trail climbs about 1700ft in just over three miles. The many switchbacks along the way help make for a long, but only moderately difficult climb. The trail is well marked with yellow blazes. A little over halfway up the trail on one of the rock faces is a large opening marked with a "H". This area is used as a Helipad for the nearby rescue squad. The views at the top are breathtaking, and you can see numerous peaks in the distance. There are also many geocaches along the trail to add to your enjoyment. The elevation of this mountain is just over 3900 ft. and it is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the area. On our way out of the Pisgah Forest, just outside the forest entrance, we found the Pisgah Tavern. This very small tavern is located inside The Hub, which is a local Mtn. biking and hiking outfitter. We made a toast to a day well lived.
